The winery Luce della Vite is located in the Italian municipality of Montalcino in Tuscany. The estate covers 190 hectares, of which 25 hectares are used for vines. The winery was founded through a collaboration between Robert Mondavi and Vittorio Frescobaldi, two icons in the wine world. After a meeting, they shared a vision to produce wine in the beautiful landscape of Montalcino. The project was named Tenuta Luce, which refers to the sun; the source of life. The illustration on the bottle of a golden sun with twelve flames refers to this source of life, but at the same time it also represents the roots of their Tuscan cultural traditions.
The vineyards are located between 350 and 420 meters above sea level. The plots have a southern direction, which provides ultimate sun exposure. The grapes are harvested by hand and selected several times for quality and ripeness. The vines planted in the vineyard are Sangiovese, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon.
In 2005, Vittorio's son inherited the estate and since then, Vittorio’s son Lamberto has been responsible for the entire process from the vineyard to the wine cellar. This wine cellar was completely renovated in 2016 and is furnished in such a way that there is room for both traditional and modern equipment. The grapes are gently pressed and then fermented using wild yeasts. The four different wines that are produced are Luce, Lux Vitis, Luce Brunello and Lucente. All wines are aged in French oak barrels for a period ranging from 12 to 24 months.
The wines of Luce della Vite are of high quality. So, it is not surprising that the wines score high worldwide. The best vintages are: 1997, 1999, 2001, 2004, 2006, 2007, 2010, 2013, 2015 and 2016.
