Roberto Voerzio

Despite for its relatively short period of operations, Roberto Voerzio is one of the most regarded wine producers in Piemonte, Italia. The Roberto Voerzio vintages are best known for their rich and less tannic flavours, such as the renowned Roberto Voerzio Barbera d'Alba Riserva Vigneto Pozzo dell'Annunziata 1998: a very powerful and rich red wine that has received excellent reviews from international wine enthusiasts!

The history of Roberto Voerzio all started in 1986, after Roberto Voerzio inherited five hectares of estate from his father’s vineyard in La Morra. This small town is located in the Langhe, a district which is known for its multiple historical vineyards. The estate of the winery currently contains approximately a nine hectares property of land, provided with predominantly Nebbiolo vines, followed by Barbera, Merlot and Dolcetto. A very notable feature of Roberto Voerzio wine is the fact that this winery doesn’t only release the regular 0.75 litres bottles, but also releases extreme large wine bottles of a stunning 12 litres. 

Roberto Voerzio produces five distinct types of wine: the Barolo; Dolcetto d’Alba; Barbera d’Alba; Langhe; and the blend named Vigna Serra. The farming on the vineyards is carried out according to a biodynamical methodology. The vines are fertilized with cow manure without the involvement of chemical pesticides, and after the vines have reached the right maturation the grapes are manually harvested. The first 50% of the grapes are harvested in July, and in August a second thinning takes place. The fermentation process is carried out for 10 to 30 days in stainless steel tanks, except for the Dolcetto, which is fermented in wooden casks. After this a small amount of sulphites is added, and ultimately the wines are bottled unfiltered.
