The Damilano 2016 Barolo Raviole is a lithe and beautiful wine with good energy and inner shine. The fruit is lively and bright with a very vertical or lifted delivery, from the comune of Grinzane Cavour, which offers a different soil profile of mostly calcareous clay. Like a string of pearls, the wine produces a chain of interlocked aromas with forest berry, licorice, campfire embers and crushed limestone. The tannins are elegant and polished. This is the second vintage I have tasted of this wine, and the results are impressive. Some 6,500 bottles were released in May 2020.
A firm, chewy red with lots of chocolate, sweet-strawberry and walnut aromas and flavors. It’s full-bodied, juicy and delicious. Shows wonderful potential.
Red-berry, underbrush and new leather aromas mingle with whiffs of dark spice and menthol. Firmly structured, the delicious palate delivers ripe black cherry, licorice, baking spice and crushed mint alongside tightly wound, fine-grained tannins. Fresh acidity provides balance. Drink 2026–2036.
