One of the more backwards, tannic and austere vintages from this estate, Clape’s 2005 Cornas sports a still youthful ruby color to go with lots of crushed rock-like minerality, violets, pepper and gamy, meaty nuances on the nose. These flow to a medium-bodied, firm, tight Cornas that has bright acidity, good concentration and plenty of tannin.
This is the Rock of Gibraltar vintage. A brick house of a wine, with a tremendous core of racy red currant and black cherry fruit that's locked behind a wall of dense but sleek tannins. Still very taut, but so pure and racy, with the minerality blazing through the finish. Wait, wait, wait.--Non-blind Clape Cornas vertical (2010).?
