Frederic Mugnier meticulously assembled the five cuvees that combine to make the 2015 Nuits Saint-Georges 1er Cru Clos de la Marechale, the famed monopole at the southern end of the appellation. It has a bright raspberry and cranberry-scented bouquet, just a hint of pomegranate in the background, lively and transparent. The palate is medium-bodied with firm tannin in the mouth. This seems to be a more structured Clos de Marechale with a sappy and slightly compact finish. Give this 3-4 years in bottle if you can. It's one of those cuvees that I often find is being consumed too young, whereas it does repay bottle age.
Very dense and savoury ? very different from the Chambolles! Very solid and rewarding with no rough edges. Lovely texture. Sweet start but (just) enough acidity. You could drink this almost now! Dances around.
