Aromas of orange rind, rose petals, plums, exotic spices, raw cocoa and sweet wild berries preface the 2020 Echezeaux Grand Cru, a medium to full-bodied, layered and expansive wine built around lively acids and melting tannins. This, too, is rather elegant and fine-boned this year.
Cask sample. Deep cherry; those haunting 2020 violets; really very stylish; floral and fun (playful?). Structure imposed itself on the finish. Really very fine.
Intensely floral notes of rose petal, lavender, violet and acacia add both elegance and breadth to the dark cherry and wonderfully spicy aromas. The rich, dense and highly seductive medium weight plus flavors possess a dusty, mouthcoating and balanced finish that delivers outstanding length. This is also going to require at least some patience as it needs to develop better depth but should eventually mature into a seriously good Ech.
Rich deep purple, the 2020 Dujac Echezeaux displays a gorgeous freshness to the fruit here, the tannins are really well assimilated and the wine seems set for a great long future. Effortless and evidently picked at just the right moment. 79% whole bunch vinification.
