The 2017 Saint-Aubin 1er Cru Derrière Chez Edouard Haut Densité is another magical cuvée from Lamy. When I tasted it, its bouquet of green orchard fruit, white flowers and oyster shells wasn't yet fully formed, but on the palate, this medium to full-bodied wine's extraordinary quality was already fully apparent. Deep, tight-knit but multidimensional, it's extraordinarily concentrated and searingly intense, with a practically interminable finish and a pronouncedly saline quality that's quite distinct from the more chalky high density bottling of Puligny Tremblots. This is a wine that entirely transcends expectations and which entirely justifies the ardent pursuit I'm sure it will receive.
