The 2017 Meursault 1er Cru Clos des Bouchères is strikingly good, bursting from the glass with an expressive bouquet of lime zest, crisp green orchard fruit, white flowers, iodine, wet stones and beeswax. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, elegantly glossy and pure, displaying remarkable textural finesse and an electric sense of energy that balances its comparatively generous expression of fruit, concluding with a long finish. This a virtuosic achievement.
2011 was their first vintage. ‘Nearly’ organic when purchased. A sunny site so harvested early. Tank sample.
Glorious ripe spicy intensity on the nose but also a savoury spice and a hint of lees texture. Much more severe on the palate, vertical and stony, electric freshness. Contrasting nose and palate, finishing on persistent finesse. (JH)
