Château Léoville Poyferré, a 2nd Growth classified estate, is located in Saint-Julien-Beychevelle within the Médoc region of Bordeaux. The history of Léoville dates back to 1638, and each part of the story resides in the soil and walls, echoing their legacy through the ages.
Léoville Poyferré, historically lagging behind in quality (amongst others
in comparison with Leoville Barton and Leoville las Cases), has been owned by the Cuvelier family since 1921. In the 1970s Didier Cuvelier took care of the château and quality began to improve. With Michel Rolland's assistance since 1995, Didier has turned Léoville-Poyferré into one of St-Julien's finest estates.
The vineyards cover 80 hectares and the terraces of Mindel gravel and sandy-clay subsoil comprise 63% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot, 7% Petit Verdot, and 5% Cabernet Franc.
Léoville Poyferré is now considered one of the best St-Julien estates and has been farmed sustainably with a certified level 3 HVE status since 2017.
