The 1988 is deep in color, with a moderately intense bouquet of herbs, smoke, and blackcurrants. The hardness it revealed when it was young has melted away, and at present, a rich, creamy texture offers up considerable roasted fruit flavors complemented by lavish amounts of oak.
Powerful, remaining graceful enough to present a plush assortment of plum, black cherry and currant flavors shaded by a touch of cedar and spice. The tannins are well integrated, and it's toasty and warm on the finish.
Rene Gabriel rates this wine 18/20 points.
