Siran's 1994 is a surprisingly extracted wine with medium body, deep color, and good purity and ripeness. Some astringent tannin in the finish raises questions as to how much of that component will melt away before the fruit begins to fade. Certainly the wine is well-endowed as well as carefully made. It should turn out to be a good example of Margaux in this slightly firm vintage. Give it 3-4 years of cellaring and drink it over the following 8-10.
All of the wines in this segment were tasted between March 19 and March 28 in Bordeaux. Most of the important wines from both the 1994 and 1995 vintages were tasted three separate times during my ten-day stay in Bordeaux.
