Barthod produced just one barrel of the 2018 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Sentiers, and it is showing brilliantly, offering up notes of cherries and berries complemented by complex nuances of spices, smoked meats and soil. Medium to full-bodied, succulent and lively, it's quite fine-boned and mineral. Though Les Sentiers can produce quite powerful wines, I suspect the small size of this cuvée—which naturally limits extraction—results in an especially elegant interpretation of the site.

Lighter in colour and an immediate joy on the nose, pure, refined with a gloriously floral note without any sign of excess heat. The same style carries through on the palate. I love this from barrel and still do now – the only problem being that just one barrel was made. An energetic and racy finish.
