This is one of four superb upper-tier Chenin Blancs made by David & Nadia. The 2023 Swartland Hoë-Steen Chenin Blanc shows classic lines with a beautifully mineral character. It sports a lovely texture with creamy richness that remains contained and elegant. This is textbook Swartland Chenin Blanc, with so much depth and vitality. The wine's long finish reveals pithy apple, pear, citrus and crushed stone. Production is limited to 1,936 bottles.
Attractive notes of sliced apples, papayas, limes and white flowers on the nose, followed by a caressing, textured, yet bright and fresh palate. It’s medium- to full-bodied with spicy hints to the creamy stone fruit. Lovely energy. Just under 2,000 bottles produced.
From Hoë-Steen (meaning High-Chenin), an old, south-facing vineyard planted in 1968 on deep, red iron- and clay-rich soils. South facing. Old Vine Project certified. 2,000 bottles produced.
Floral, edgy nose. This is packed with interesting flavours already but there is also potential for future development. Crystalline texture. (JR)
The 2023 Chenin Blanc Hoë-Steen comes from vines planted in 1968—usually the last vineyard to ripen. It has an expressive, complex, nicely focused bouquet with linseed oil, walnut and light pine aromas. The palate is well balanced with a harmonious entry, displaying mandarin mixed with walnut and smoke. It’s quite persistent on the finish, leaving the mouth with a white pepper aftertaste. Excellent.
