Cédric Bouchard’s 2020 Blanc de Blancs La Bolorée, disgorged in April 2024, is another brilliant rendition of this superb cuvée. Only a year apart from the incisive 2021 yet stylistically distinct, it offers immediate pleasure with aromas of pear, orange zest, freshly baked bread and spring flowers. On the palate, it’s medium- to full-bodied, concentrated and layered, with a sweet core of fruit, succulent yet racy acids and impressive mid-palate volume framed by ample chalky extract. Harmonious and vinous, it recalls the 2019 in both style and quality.

The 2020 Blanc de Blancs La Bolorée is bright and focused to the core. Often slow out of the gate, La Bolorée is once again quite reticent. That won't be an issue in a few years' time, once this has come together more fully. Today, bright saline and chalky notes dominate. The 2020 is a riveting, stunning Champagne. Readers who can find it should not hesitate. This is Pinot Blanc at its most profound. La Bolorée is La Bolorée. That's all there is to it. No dosage. Disgorged: April 2024
