A giant dry Mosel, although it is only medium-bodied and has 12.5% alcohol. It has more minerality than is safe for the inexperienced. Fantastic aromas of bergamot, wild herbs and flowers. Huge salty minerality is wrapped around a firm core. Amazing stony intensity in the extremely long finish. Incredible aging potential. Limited production. Drink or hold.
The 2024 Riesling Wintricher Ohligsberg GW, with GW signifying Grosser Wintricher rather than GG, was made entirely in 500- and 600-liter barrels. Creamy oak is the initial note on the nose and more air reveals a freshly cut, tart nectarine aroma. The palate, likewise, is shy and focused on oak, with a textural core that is fresh with lemon. The 2024 is not at an easy stage for assessment, with the oak speaking loudly now. (Bone-dry)
The 2024er Wintricher Ohligsberg Riesling “GW” is a bone-dry wine (with 3 g/l of residual sugar) made from fruit picked on 65-year-old vines which was fermented and aged in a used Stöckinger cask. It displays a beautiful, captivating, and impressively smoky and fresh nose of spearmint, smoke, wet slate, white minerals, jasmine, lime tree, herbal tea, and lemon. The wine proves slightly juicy and creamy at first, and gains in volume and intensity as it unfolds. It leaves a hugely impressive and almost powerful feel in the very long finish, and the aftertaste maintains good focus and freshness. This is a very impressive Ohligsberg.
