From a steep, southeast-facing lieu-dit, with vines planted between 1980 and 1985, Jérémy Arnaud’s 2022 Chablis 1er Cru Vau De Vey La Grande Chaume wafts from the glass with a deep bouquet of fresh hazelnuts, fennel, beeswax and tangerine peel, framed by a touch of reduction. On the palate, it’s medium to full-bodied, tensile, precise and laden with tangy acids and concludes with a persistent finish. It’s a serious wine that will require patience to reveal its full potential. Like the rest of his Chablis, it’s matured for two years on the lees but with a slightly higher proportion of used barrels.
