The 2023 Chardonnay from Niebaum-Coppola was produced as a result of a late start and a prolonged ripening period during the growing season in California, where the climate remained cooler than the average of recent years. These characteristics are reflected in the wine itself. With Chardonnay, when ripening proceeds more gradually, acidity is preserved, and the aroma comes to the forefront rather than the body of the wine, so compared to the 2020 and 2022 vintages, which were warmer, this vintage can be expected to have a fresher flavor. We believe that the 2023 vintage can be classified as one of the cleaner, more mineral-driven wines in our winery’s style.
