Clos de la Bousse d'Or is a monopole, wholly owned by La Pousse d'Or. This 2020 vintage is a red Volnay Premier Cru from the Côte de Beaune and made entirely from Pinot Noir. The fact that this vineyard gave the domaine its name speaks to just how significant a role it plays here.
2020 was a year of early harvests across the entire Burgundy region. La Pousse d'Or began harvesting in the Côte de Beaune on the 25th of August; while the Pinot Noir berries came in small, resulting in lower yields, the concentration of the remaining grapes was higher. Production increased slightly compared to 2019 but remained low by general standards. Warm days and cool nights persisted throughout the summer, helping to maintain good acidity, and growers reported that the potential alcohol content was lower than the previous year.
The Volnay, born from the combination of all these elements, features concentrated dark fruit without heaviness, offering the vibrancy for which this appellation is well-known. This estate has been practicing biodynamic farming since 2015 and has been certified for all its vineyards since 2018. This Côte de Beaune wine was bottled in the spring of 2022. It is best enjoyed between 2027 and 2042.
