In 2019, spring frosts and summer heat made for a hot and dry growing season in Burgundy, leading to lower yields. As for the wine “La Pousse d’Or” from Chevalier-Montrachet, these conditions not only intensified the Chardonnay’s flavor concentration but also helped preserve its freshness thanks to the altitude and the southeast-facing orientation of the Grand Cru vineyards. And that is precisely the key point. Wines from the 2019 vintage in the Côte de Beaune generally feature a harmonious blend of ripe fruit notes and pronounced acidity, and this wine also reflects that balance. We believe this vintage is not intended for immediate consumption but rather for long-term aging.
Here too the nose is firmly reduced so again, give this plenty of air if you're going to try a bottle young. Otherwise there is even better intensity to the solidly dense and muscular big-bodied flavors that brim with an almost pungent minerality on the tightly wound, refined and lingering finale. This is really quite classy and a wine that is also going to require at least moderate patience.
Mid lemon yellow. A strict nose, but still with a touch more volume than the Cailleret. There is really an excellent level of flesh, showing the oak a bit at the moment, but will certainly eat it up. Little lemon tints to finish. Note the refinement of flesh and fruit and acidity to finish, with all the requisite length for grand cru Chevalier-Montrachet.
