Insignia 2022 Joseph Phelps

Joseph Phelps has released its “Insignia” wine following the Napa Valley growing season, during which the harvest was moved up due to a sharp rise in temperatures in September. The blend is primarily Cabernet Sauvignon, with Malbec and Petit Verdot rounding out the wine’s flavor profile. Thanks to the warm weather at the end of the growing season, the wine has developed a rich, fruity flavor and firm tannins, so the optimal drinking window is set for 2024 through 2048. Compared to the cooler vintages of recent years, “Insignia” is expected to be more full-bodied and have a more robust structure. This wine is definitely worth waiting for as it matures. Nevertheless, the black currant and graphite notes characteristic of this wine are already beginning to emerge.
