In 2022, the entire Côte de Beaune region suffered from extreme heat and drought, and Chassagne-Montrachet was no exception. The vines, which were able to draw moisture from deep limestone soil layers, produced grapes with a rich flavor and a high degree of ripeness. Joseph Colin adhered to the principle of minimal intervention in the winemaking process: he hand-harvested each plot at the optimal time, avoided bâtonnage, used large oak barrels, and did not perform fining or filtration. “Hereditas 2022” vividly reflects this approach. The wine’s flavor is characterized by maturity, yet it does not feel heavy, instead drawing on the minerality typical of Chassagne. The optimal drinking window is expected to be from 2025 to 2036.
