"Fenix 2019" is a wine produced at the Jonata Estate winery, located in Ballard Canyon in Santa Ynez. This region is known for the sandy soils of Careaga, which make growing grapes particularly challenging. The 2019 vintage is a blend centered on Cabernet Sauvignon, along with Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot, a traditional Bordeaux blend of four varieties grown under the Central Coast sun. Winemaker Matt Dees has managed to extract the wine’s full body and structure from this challenging sandy soil. James Suckling, Vinous, and Jeb Dunnuck have all reviewed this vintage. Furthermore, this wine possesses the dark fruit notes and spicy edge characteristic of Jonata, which have made the brand famous.
