Vosne Romanee les Beaux Monts 2018 Jean-Jacques Confuron

Les Beaux Monts 2018 (from the Jean-Jacques Confuron estate) is a red wine from Vosne-Romanée, produced in Côte de Nuits. The vineyard is small, and the vines were planted in 1945; this is reflected not so much in the wine's yield as in its intensity. The Pinot Noir, made primarily from destemmed grapes, was vinified using the method of immersing the grapes in the must (rather than transferring them by pump), then aged in oak barrels and bottled unfiltered.

The 2018 vintage was a warm, bountiful year. There was abundant rainfall from winter through early spring; in January alone, precipitation exceeded 120 mm, and this moisture helped the vines weather the hot summer without experiencing stress. The harvest took place amid the late-summer heat, with temperatures around 30 degrees. As a result, plump, fully ripe fruit was harvested across the Côte de Nuits region, and the greatest challenge that year was preserving the wine's freshness.

This is where the Confuron style comes into play. The domaine's young Beaux Monts wines are generally understated and concentrated; rather than captivating at first glance, they are the type that gradually reveal their charm. Consequently, the 2018 vintage, characterized by more ripe fruit, gives a more approachable impression than usual, while retaining its structure. This wine is best enjoyed by 2038.
