The 2024 growing season in Côte de Nuits proved to be a challenging year for winemakers. A cool and wet spring increased the risk of powdery mildew, and uneven flowering led to lower yields long before harvest. Cool weather persisted into the summer, and winemakers, forced to wait for the rains to stop, delayed the start of the harvest. For the “Gevrey-Chambertin Les Corvées 2024” from Domaine Tortochot, this means a small production volume and that it turned out fresher and more intensely aromatic with red fruit notes than is typical for Gevrey-Chambertin-style wines. This is a cool vintage, and its characteristics are vividly reflected in the wine. One can expect this to be a Gevrey-Chambertin Villages that exhibits more suppleness than power and will reach its peak drinking window earlier than vintages with deeper color and a heavier body. Best enjoyed till 2036.
