The Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Duvault-Blochet 2002, bottled only in certain years, is a red Pinot Noir from Vosne-Romanée, and it is the only wine from Domaine de la Romanée-Conti to bear the Premier Cru label instead of the Grand Cru label. The grapes were harvested from the Grand Cru vineyard, using grapes from young vines, late-ripening plots, and batches that did not make the final cut for the named Grand Cru. .
The year 2002 provided Côte de Nuits with a long and peaceful start. Late June and July experienced cool, capricious weather with sporadic rain, while August was dry and lacked both sunlight and heat; the rain that fell toward the end of August was concentrated mainly in the Côte de Beaune region, with much less falling in the northern Côte de Nuits region. Harvest began on the 16th of September. Throughout the summer and fall, the Côte d'Or region was marked by dry conditions and a leisurely ripening process.
And this suits this cuvée perfectly.
