Pomerol is the home of Chateau L'Evangile, which vineyards are planted with roughly 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc.
June of this vintage 2006 and the growing season for July were hot, dry, and sunny, leading many major wineries to limit their actual yield to less than 50 percent. This has resulted in a high level of concentration.
Jean-Luc Marchive led this domaine at the time of the 1995 vintage. This wine is best enjoyed by 2030, and it is recommended to let it breathe in a decanter before serving.

The sexy, dark ruby/purple-tinged 2006 l’Evangile achieved 14% natural alcohol, as high as any of the great vintages at this estate. Abundant amounts of dark raspberry and black cherry fruit intertwined with sweet plums and hints of figs as well as spring flowers jump from the glass of this medium to full-bodied, fleshy, supple-textured, silky wine.

Displays blackberry and earth, with a mushroom undertone. Full-bodied, with pleasant fruit and a medium finish. Tight. Needs to come together.

Blackish purple. Appealingly smooth and fresh wthout being the most original wine in this afternoon's collection of right bank wines. Lots of pleasure. This is the sort of wine I expect Clinet to produce – super smooth and flattering
Vinous (92)
Good deep red-ruby. Aromas of black raspberry, licorice, espresso and bitter chocolate, with a whiff of pepper. Then lush and sweet but nicely firmed by fresh acidity. This has real fat and a chocolatey ripeness. Finishes with broad, even tannins. Vazart described the 2006 as rounder than the 2004, but will the new vintage have the sheer verve to make an outstanding bottle? The pH here is 3.82, and the wine went through its malolactic fermentation in new barrels.

Rene Gabriel rates this wine 18/20 points.
Falstaff (92)
Deep ruby garnet, delicate violet reflections, watery rim. Finely spiced cherry and strawberry nuances on the nose, a hint of vanilla, red berry accents, a hint of precious wood. Quite powerful on the palate, fresh structure, delicate nougat, fine tannins that stick well, black cherries on the finish, mineral, very promising.
Wine Enthusiast (92)
A big, rich chocolaty wine with delicious spice and ripe tannins. The fruit is sumptuously rich, blackberry juice flavors balancing the power and concentration of the texture. In all this richness, there is just enough freshness to lift the finish.
