Nuits Saint Georges La Petite Charmotte 2023 Charles Lachaux

La Petite Charmotte is located on the northern side of Nuits-Saint-Georges; the 2023 vintage is made from pinot noir harvested from the vineyard of Charles Lachaux in Burgundy's Côte de Nuits. It faces east on a gentle slope, and the vines were planted in the 1960s. Grapes harvested from old vines situated on a slope that receives morning sun rather than the hot late-afternoon sun: this combination defines the character of this site, which is situated directly below the adjacent 1er Cru Bousselot.

The year 2023 presented many challenges for growers in the Côte de Nuits region. Cold weather set in early and persisted late into the season. While the warm weather in May spurred the vines' growth, a period of no sunshine stretching from July to the early part of August delayed ripening, followed by a heatwave between the 17th and 20th of August. In September, another 3-4 days of extreme heat followed, causing some grapes to burn completely. It was crucial to sort out grapes that were sunburned, withered, or showed a bit of mildew. Yields were high across the village, and veraison was drawn out.

The alcohol content is 13.5%. This wine is best enjoyed till 2038.
