Aux Montagnes from Côte de Nuits, a villages's red wine, the 2022 vintage from Charles Lachaux. Charles Lachaux is a micro-négociant venture he runs alongside his work at Domaine Arnoux-Lachaux. Pinot Noir is bottled while still young and is made using grapes sourced from growers he knows personally.
Côte de Nuits-Villages is classified as a communal wine within the Burgundy hierarchy, ranking below Premier Cru and Grand Cru. Wines from this appellation are generally characterized by subtle fruitiness and are easy to drink while young, making them well-suited for producers who intentionally bottle their wines within one year of harvest.
The 2022 vintage benefited from favorable conditions. From April through September, nearly record-breaking heat and sunny weather persisted throughout the Burgundy region; however, rain fell at just the right time, and the heavy rainfall that occurred particularly toward the end of June helped offset the effects of the dry summer. At the beginning of August, the vines were suffering from a lack of moisture. Harvesting began early, and several domaines had finished harvesting before September began. The alcohol content of this vintage's wines is lower than that of 2020, and the acidity is only slightly lower.
When poured into a glass, aromas of red berries unfold, with softness standing out rather than heaviness. This is the hallmark of the 2022 Côte de Nuits-Villages Aux Montagnes: fruitiness is perceived first, followed by a sense of body.
