Founded in 1982, Cardinale's mission is to craft a unique Cabernet Sauvignon using the highest-quality vineyards in Napa Valley. To achieve this, grapes are sourced from all sub-appellations of the region and can vary annually to create a distinct wine for each vintage.
The heart of Cardinale comes from the estate vineyards located in two prime appellations: Mount Veeder and Howell Mountain. Supporting components are sourced from vineyards in Spring Mountain, Diamond Mountain, St. Helena, and Stags Leap.
Cardinale winemaker Christopher Carpenter believes that blending is an art. He waits until just before bottling to blend the 30-40 wine lots, as they change significantly during the two years in barrel. Carpenter tastes each barrel every quarter and typically selects three or four standout barrels to become the base. Small amounts of individual lots are blended, resulting in a complex and unique wine every vintage.
