Caiarossa is a winery located in the heart of the Val di Cecina on the Tuscan coast. Its company logo features an ancient clay head of Etruscan origin representing the Greek god Dionysus, dating back to the fourth century B.C.
Caiarossa is owned by the family Albada Jelgersma who also own Chateaux Giscours and du Tertre in Margaux (Bordeaux). The experience of cultivating traditional Bordeaux grapes and producing wines on a superb Tuscan terroir has led to wines of the highest quality..
The name Caiarossa pays homage to the soil, which is characterized by the presence of intensely red jasper, rock, and pebbles, and is inspired by Gaia, the mother of all gods on Mount Olympus and goddess of fertility and nature.
Since its founding in 1998, Caiarossa has followed the principles of organic agriculture for vineyard cultivation and geo-dynamics and the oriental discipline of Feng Shui for cellar construction. They are part of a new generation of Super-Tuscans, emphasizing biodynamic and organic practices to create a distinctive style.
The vineyards consist of different lots, each planted with the most suitable grape varieties depending on soil type, including Sangiovese, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot, Syrah, Grenache, Mourvèdre, Chardonnay, Viognier, and Petit Manseng.
Caiarossa produces two IGT Tuscan red wines: Caiarossa, a cuvée of the best grapes of the year, and Pergolaia, predominantly Sangiovese in keeping with the region's winemaking tradition.
