The 2017 Rosso Dettori opens slowly in the glass as tangerine hints give way to dried black cherries, ash and crushed rocks. This is velvety, nearly weighty in feel, yet lifted by brisk acidity. A dense wave of ripe plums combines with bitter dark chocolate to display contrasts. Hauntingly long and youthfully poised, the 2017 tapers off with fine-grained tannins and rum-raisin hints. The balance within is beautiful, and there is much potential here, yet cellaring will be necessary.
