Romanee-Conti

Romanee-Conti is a highly regarded Grand Cru wine made solely from Pinot Noir. It achieved AOC Grand Cru status in 1936. The vineyard is located in Burgundy's Cote de Nuits region and covers only 1.81 hectares. This modest size adds to the wine's rarity and price.

Romanee-Conti is located on the midslope of the Cote d'Or, in the heart of Vosne-Romanee's Grand Cru vines. Romanee-Saint-Vivant, Richebourg and La Romanee form the vineyard's border. Pebbly limestone and clay make up the soil, which has good drainage.

Monks of the Saint-Vivant Abbey grew vines throughout the Middle Ages. During the 18th century the vineyard was owned by the Prince of Conti, after being confiscated during the French Revolution it passed into the hands of the de Villaine family in the late nineteenth century. The vineyard is now a monopole of Domaine de la Romanee-Conti, managed by Aubert de Villaine.
