The 1999 Cornas is one of the stars of the vintage, and, according to Pierre-Marie, the finest they have made since 1991. Its black/purple color is followed by refreshing underlying acidity, and a fabulous bouquet of roasted earth, jammy blackberries, notes of tree bark, and licorice.
This is starting to kick into second gear, with the firm bitter cherry and tobacco notes melding into the core of cherry preserve, crushed plum and dark fig fruit. Nice tangy minerality keeps the edges nervy, ending on a vibrant, slightly high-toned note.
