In the northern part of Côte des Blancs you find the champagne of Philippe Glavier. This is one of the rising stars in the Côte de Blancs. Veronique and Philippe Glavier founded the Domaine in 1995 to offer a pure expression of the different terroirs they grow their champagnes. They own plots in Grand Cru vineyards in Cramant, Le Mesnil-sur-Oger, Oger and Avize, as well as some plots in Monthelon, Mancy and Grauves.
The primary focus of Glavier is Chardonnay.
With their 4.7 hectares, they produce solely Grand Cru wines. For their rosé Glavier sources its Pinot Noir from Ambonnay to also produce a Grand Cru Rosé. With this range you experience a wonderful expression of Chardonnay from the Côte des Blancs. Their champagnes receive an above-average maturation to fully develop before release, and additives such as sulphites and dosage are kept to a minimum.
Besides their La Grâce d’Alphaël Grand Cru Extra Brut, Glavier produces several single-climat wines, each of them offering a powerful expression of their unique terroirs. These wines are the Génésis (Mesnil-sur-Oger), Mesnil Emotion Millesimé (Mesnil-sur-Oger), Cramant Emotion Millesimé (Cramant) and a champagne aged on 300 litre Oak Barrels, Folie de Cramant Millesimé.
Besides these pure and expressive champagnes, Philippe Glavier also produces a Ratafia. This drink has been made in Champagne since the beginning of time, and is usually made in small batches. Traditionally this never even reached the market and was solely used for private consumption for the winemaker and his family, however the drink is slowly increasing in popularity.
Glavier has decided to continue their style of winemaking in this sweet wine, by using solely Grand Cru Chardonnay from the Côte des Blancs. Besides that they use the vin de goutte for their production of Ratafia, which is the best part of the juice. Their Ratafia also came out as the very best and received a golden medal at the 2022 Ratafia Champanois Awards.
