Muscular and powerful, the 2019 Clos Vougeot Grand Cru (Domaine Louis Jadot) opens in the glass with aromas of cherries, sweet berry fruit, raw cocoa, spices, rose petals and licorice. Full-bodied, layered and concentrated, with rich structuring tannins and lively acids, this is built for the long haul.
The 2020 Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru is deep in colour. It comes across a little oaky on the nose at the moment, a bit impenetrable. The palate is medium-bodied with succulent tannins, ripe and fleshy, quite sweet on the finish, but maybe missing the noblesse of its peers at the moment.
Subtle wisps of menthol suffuse the ripe aromas of spicy purple fruit compote along with plenty of earth influence that is picked up by the supple and caressing yet powerful larger-scaled flavors that conclude in a youthfully austere and moderately firm but not hard finish where the only nit is a touch of warmth. This isn't forbidding like some vintages though with that said, I would advise not touching a bottle for at least 10 years and 15 will very likely prove to be the sweet spot of maturity.
