The 2011 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Amoureuses has a self-effacing, nonchalant bouquet that takes time to gain vigor, but maintains its poise and precision as it slowly unfurls. This is a classic, mild-mannered Amoureuses rather than the feisty damsels one usually encounters. The palate is medium-bodied with fine, supple tannins. It is beautifully balanced and very unassuming, yet the finish is beguilingly understated and just slips down the throat with ease. You then notice the extraordinarily long aftertaste, as if to belatedly remind you that you are drinking some serious terroir. Superb.
