Vogue's winemaker Millet said that he feared the freshness might fool drinkers into opening them early and I concur: these are wines that deserve several years in bottle. This wine needs time and priced accordingly. But in 10 years it will show its potential and prices will increase accordingly. Maybe even the Burgundy of the vintage.
The 2013 Musigny Vieilles Vignes Grand Cru has a succinct nose, more introverted than the Bonnes-Mares at the moment, a little earthier perhaps, gradually unfurling with touches of iris, potpourri and rose petals. The palate is underpinned by succulent ripe tannin, very fine acidity and decidedly linear towards the finish, but extraordinarily long in the mouth with tangible mineralité. There is enormous potential locked up in this Musigny that deserves at least a decade in the cellar. One of the wines of the vintage? Quite possibly.
