The 2022 Grüner Veltliner Smaragd Ried Kollmütz opens with clear, elegant, finely mineral-accented fruit such as ripe pears and notes of broken stone. Elegant and delicate, yet dense and juicy on the palate, the Kollmütz Veltliner reveals good intensity and length.
Wösendorf. Terraced vineyards at 218–248 m with vines facing different directions. Stony, sandy and slightly calcareous soils.
An aroma of peaches and green fruits, rich and vibrant on the palate with excellent freshness. Full of energy and intensity without any heaviness. (JH)
The 2022 Grüner Veltliner Kollmütz Smaragd was picked one-third at the foot of the slope, with the rest coming from two parcels at altitude on gneiss—all harvested late. The higher parcels hold more acidity, despite the high ripeness. A touch of waxy red apple plays on the nose and continues on a palate that is once again compact, fluid, smooth and ripe, but with beautiful freshness. A mid-palate savory impact of smooth yeast is held within that red apple waxiness here. The finish is bone-dry, very harmonious, beautifully balanced and even a bit understated. (Bone-dry)
