The 2017 Nuits Saint-Georges Au Bas de Combe is one of the domaine’s lesser-known cuvée, though it has been expanded with the cessation of a sharecropping agreement to provide around four barrels. It has a lovely, lilting wilted violet petal bouquet with plenty of bright black and blue fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin and crisp acidity. Quite "crunchy" in the mouth, leading to a slightly confit finish. Very fine.
They now have 3 barrels, 4 in 2018, as opposed to half that before. Sound rich purple. Concentrated dark fruit nose, this absolutely fills the mouth with sweetly ripe fruit, the tannins are silky and the follow through impeccable.
Au Bas de Combe is a village lieu-dit that sits just over the border in Nuits-St-Georges from the Vosne-Romanée premier cru, Les Chaumes. Made with vines planted in 1935, this is a suitably impressive red with appealing perfume, sappy, textured red fruits and a patina of spicy vanilla oak.
