This is very layered, fresh and almost crunchy in texture, with generous flavors of baked apples, lemon zest and lime curd. It’s laced with minerals, chalk, toast, oak spices and flint on the palate. The finish shows crisp, tangy apple skin and minerals.
A nicely balanced whiff of reduction blows off to reveal ginger-spiked green apples, pine shavings and mint as the 2022 Chardonnay Eola Springs blossoms in the glass. The 2022 impresses further with its silken nature, offset by a stimulating core of tart orchard fruits, minerals and lime. It tapers off with dramatic length and gentle structure, leaving a tart citrus resonance and the slightest hint of almond custard that adds enriching depth. Beautifully executed.
The medium yellow 2022 Chardonnay Eola Springs benefits from some air on opening to blow off its more forward reductive notes, revealing forward aromas of gunflint, savory alpine herbs, apples, lemon oils, and delicate oak spices. The palate offers a medium to full-bodied frame, with a good deal of intensity and concentration, driving, ripe acidity, and a pleasing and an elegant, pithy texture. With a long finish and notable aging potential, I anticipate it will reach its eighth to tenth birthday with no problem.
