Medium ruby, the 2018 Seven Flags Pinot Noir is bright with vibrant floral potpourri essence and cherry blossoms that pop from the nose. Medium-bodied and with succulent acidity, the 13.5% Pinot Noir is expressive with notions of rose petals and a delicate mineral tension with a delightful tannic edge. It uncoils to show a food-friendly wine that will indeed improve with age and be better with food.
Cherries and cranberries with spicy notes, stems, dried flowers and herbs. Medium-bodied with good tension and compact structure. Vivid and juicy with crisp acidity and a flavorful finish. Sustainable.
The 2018 Pinot Noir Paul Cluver Seven Flags comes from the oldest vines from a south-facing cool site, different to the original vineyard that was pulled out due to leafroll. This is blended with 15% whole clusters. It has an attractive peppery bouquet with raspberry and crushed strawberry. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy red fruit, modest depth and just a faint tobacco element with a linear finish. Give this two or three years in bottle.
