The top white here is the 2024 Qué Bonito Cacareaba, a ripe and generously oaked blend of 50% Garnacha Blanca, 25% Viura and 25% Malvasía Riojana. It has a lot more Garnacha and a lot less Viura this time, sourced from dry-farmed vines in some of the best terroirs of San Vicente de la Sonsierra and Labastida, El Bombón, El Sauco, Sacramento, Paulejas, Hoyo, San Francisco and Murmurón. It fermented and aged for nine months in new 225-liter French oak barrels with the fine lees that were stirred weekly until June 2025. It has a bright golden color and a very oaky nose with notes of spices, toast, smoke and sawdust. It's voluptuous, lush and showy, ripe and round, with 14.78% alcohol, keeping very good freshness (pH of 3.12) and acidity (6.2 grams) that provide balance. The wine is very oaky, but it's powerful and concentrated and the oak should get better integrated with time in bottle.
The 2024 Qué Bonito Cacareaba from San Vicente de la Sonsierra blends 50% Garnacha Blanca, 25% Viura and 25% Malvasía Riojana. On the nose, white stone fruit leads, with oak currently playing an expressive role and lending intensity and clarity. Broad but not indulgent, the palate shows elevated glycerol weight balanced by equally high acidity. Its finish is long, with fine oak extending the line of the palate. A serious, structured white to revisit in four to five years, when the core of Garnacha Blanca yields to the charm and nuance of Viura.
