The red 2023 Predicador Tinto was produced with a blend of 91% Tempranillo, 4% Garnacha, 4% Mazuelo and 1% Graciano from different vineyards in San Vicente de la Sonsierra and Labastida. It fermented destemmed in oak vats and matured in French barriques, 10% of them new, for 18 months. It's oaky and ripe, with some earthiness and hints of licorice and fountain pen ink. It comes in at 15.34% alcohol and feels ripe and warm, keeping a pH of 3.45 and 5.9 grams of acidity. It's heady and with a dark and earthy profile of very ripe black fruit and abundant tannins. It's a bit over the top for my taste. It needs time and/or powerful food, but it is basically for fans of big, big reds. 85,000 bottles produced.
From San Vicente de la Sonsierra, the 2023 Tinto Predicador is composed of 91% Tempranillo, 4% Garnacha, 4% Mazuelo and 1% Graciano. Thirty percent aged in new oak, with the remainder in used barrels. Precise cherry and fresh plum lead the nose, framed by a balsamic lift and a note of forest floor that signals its origin. On the palate, it is dry and well-defined, with fine-grained Rioja tannins, finishing with a gentle imprint of oak that carries the length. Attractive and balanced, this is a modernized Rioja in its ABC form, with a subtle New World inflection in its fruit profile.
