Le Mont Benoit is a single vineyard spanning approximately 2.5 hectares, and it gives this Premier Cru Extra Brut Champagne from Emmanuel Brochet its name. The Pinot Noir, Pinot Meunier, and Chardonnay varieties are all grown on a massive outcrop of chalk facing southeast, with an elevation difference of approximately 20 meters between the lower and upper sections. Some of the vines date back to the mid-20th century. The wine is bottled as a blend of multiple vintages rather than a single vintage.
Brochet inherited this vineyard in 1997 from his grandparents. In 2011, the vineyard obtained organic certification.
Oak barrels play a very important role here. Each year, approximately one-quarter of the oak barrel stock is replaced with barrels sourced from Atelier Centre France, François Frères, Rousseau, and Damy, and the wine is aged in oak barrels for 11 months until tirage. Malolactic fermentation occurs naturally, and only a small amount of sulfites is added during pressing and after malolactic fermentation is complete.
Aromas of toasted bread, dried flowers, and subtle spices are the first to emerge. Although rich and medium- to full-bodied, it also exhibits lively and crisp acidity. It is enjoyable now but will be at its best between 2027 and 2036.
