The 2022 growing season in Côte de Beaune, following 2021—when the harvest was meager due to frost—was characterized by warm and dry weather. Winemakers feared stress caused by drought, but the vines adapted better than expected, and the grapes ripened to full maturity without becoming watery and were harvested in excellent condition. Vincent Girardin's “Santenay Le Beauregard 2022” reflects these conditions: it has a more intense fruit flavor than is typical for cool vintages in this appellation, while retaining the earthy aromas and spicy notes characteristic of Santenay. Beauregard is located among the northern Premier Cru Santenay plots, in close proximity to Chassagne-Montrachet. The limestone soils of this vineyard give the 2022 vintage a mineral backbone and prevent its warmth from turning into jammy sweetness. The wine can be enjoyed earlier than classic vintages, yet it is designed for long-term aging.
