Wafting from the glass with aromas of pear, white flowers, citrus zest, pastry cream and nutmeg, the 2020 Montrachet Grand Cru is full-bodied, ample and multidimensional, with a satiny attack that segues into a fleshy, layered, impressively complete mid-palate. Animated by racy acids and concluding with a long, resonant finish, it's a wine that lives up to this famed vineyard's reputation.
Hints of the exotic suffuses the fresh and ripe aromas of white and yellow orchard fruit, star anise, acacia, carnation and jasmine tea. There is a sense of generosity to the rich and caressing but quite powerful, even muscular, broad-shouldered flavors that possess excellent punch on the strikingly lengthy finish. This is a very stylish and classy wine that is also packed with development potential.
Pure, pale and delicious. A massive weight of fruit but better balanced than the 2021 which I found a touch exotic. Glorious on the palate, but this slight dry patch. Could be the barrel? We tried a second sample. It just takes a minute for the aromas to come out. More volume on the palate with a classy opulence Still tight behind.
