The 2022 season in the Côte de Beaune was marked by warm weather and drought, but timely rainfall mitigated these effects and prevented the white wines from losing their freshness. For Château Sauzet, this resulted in a Pouilly-Montrachet ‘Hameau de Blagny that exhibits nuances of ripe fruit while retaining the tension characteristic of Pouilly. “Hameau de Blagny” is situated high on a slope overlooking the village, and in warm years, this elevation makes a significant difference. You can expect a rich, full-bodied wine. Although it can be enjoyed sooner than wines from cooler vintages, it is crafted with long-term aging in mind.

The 2022 Puligny-Montrachet Hameau de Blagny 1er Cru has a complex bouquet that takes time to open in the glass: touches of wet pavement, Granny Smith apples and hints of fennel in the background. The palate is well-balanced, tensile and linear with a taut bead of acidity; this delivers an almost minimalist finish that is very Blagny in style. Good salinity and length. Very fine.

A slightly riper nose reflects aromas of white peach, citrus confit and a pretty array of floral elements. The round and fleshy but agreeably punchy medium-bodied flavors also possess a gorgeous mouthfeel thanks to the abundant dry extract that completely buffers the moderately firm citrus-tinged acid spine shaping the sneaky long finale. This isn't quite as tautly wound but it should still repay up to a decade of keeping. Also well-worth considering.

Lemon and lime in colour, a little softer than the Garenne in the bouquet. This is quite complete with a lifted energy to it, very long, not trying to be fuller bodied that it can be, the citrus note has both a light lime note as well as some lemon, while pure orchard fruit forms the back bone. Very old vines which yield little.
