Myriad Cellars

The name Myriad is derived from the Greek words ‘Myrias’ meaning "ten thousand" and ‘Myrios’ meaning "innumerable". The winery and the terroir are composed of many diverse elements, in other words: innumerable. The winery was founded in 2006 by Mike Smith, who gained experience while working with winemaker Thomas Brown. Before starting Myriad, Mike traveled all the way from Portland, Oregon, to the Napa Valley to learn the trade. He has worked for Carter Cellars, Becklyn, and the Maybach Family, among others.

Myriad works with 19 different vineyards, including some that are among the Napa Valley's finest. These include Beckstoffer to Kalon, Beckstoffer Dr. Crane and Weitz Vineyard. Mike's mission is to produce natural and expressive California wines, in which terroir plays an important role. The plantations mainly consist of Cabernet Sauvignon, but you will also find a small amount of Semillon and Syrah. Recently, Myriad has also been producing a rosé based on Pinot Noir. The grapes for the rosé are purchased from Patiné Cellars, with whom the winery has built a close partnership.

In the cellar, interventions are kept to a minimum, so that the wines reflect the terroir very well. The fermentation is started by natural yeasts and the use of oak is just right and not excessive. The duration of the barrel aging depends on the wine and the vintage. The entire vinification process is done by Mike himself. This way he has full control, and he stays close to his wines.

The overall production is limited and only a few cases of each wine are marketed. This makes the wines scarce and even more desired. There is even a waiting list to get this unique wine! The legendary vintages are 2013, 2016 and 2019.
