Vosne Romanee 2019 Meo Camuzet

Méo-Camuzet's Vosne Romanée 2019, A red village wine brewed exclusively from the Pinot Noir variety grown in the Vosne-Romanée region of Côte de Nuits. Here, village-grown means that the grapes come from village-level plots, though in a vintage like 2019, this distinction carries less weight than usual. Across the entire Côte region, the berries were small with thick skins, resulting in a higher skin-to-juice ratio. This is evident even when poured into a glass: intense fruit aromas, a solid structure, and a more concentrated flavor than the typical Vosne-Romanée.

2019 was a superb vintage for Burgundy, although the yield was low. Frost in April struck some plots, and subsequently, cool and wet conditions early in the June season disrupted flowering, resulting in the formation of small berries (mille-grains) on the clusters, which further reduced the yield. Subsequently, June and July were hit by successive heat waves, with temperatures reaching 40 °C toward the end of June. Rainfall in the middle of August restored balance to the vineyards, and by around the 15th of September, the harvest in the Côte de Nuits was already in full swing.

The total harvest for Burgundy in 2019 was 1.2 million hectoliters, falling below the average of 1.5 million hectoliters. Although the volume of wine is low, the flavor is more concentrated. It is best enjoyed by 2034.
