Nuits Saint Georges Aux Murgers 2023 Meo Camuzet

Aux Murgers is a Nuits-Saint-Georges Premier Cru located midway between Vosne-Romanée and Nuits-Saint-Georges, and the 2023 vintage red wine from Méo-Camuzet was produced from vines planted in two separate phases between 1965 and 1972. The vineyard has now grown to truly shows its quality. This parcel is situated at the lower end of the slope, a more favorable area facing east, with fairly fine soil, even sandy at the top of the plot. The name refers to a pile of stones left behind when the land was cleared, which remains intact to this day.

The year 2023 required patience and a sorting table. After a very cold and prolonged start to the season, a warm May arrived that spurred the vines' growth, followed by a chilly, sunless period lasting from July through the early part of August. A heat wave struck during the August period between the 17th and 20th, and the heat continued for several days during the September period, causing some grapes to scorch. Although the yield was high, véraison dragged on, and grapes that were sunscorched, withered, or mildew-touched had to be removed by hand.

New oak marks this Pinot Noir for a while before the wine softens, and bottling will take place later than usual. It is best enjoyed between 2026 and 2040.
